The Druids

Cleveland Irish Festival , Cleveland Ohio USA

John O’Brien, Sr. gathered a group of friends and founded Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival in an effort to showcase, and thereby preserve the many traditions of his native land. Enlisting a group of incredibly dedicated volunteers, John realized his vision for Cleveland Iirsh Cultural Festival in 1983. During its two day run, that first festival drew more than 3,000 visitors.

The festival committee met soon after the crowds dispersed to evaluate and develop the event for the following summer. Their continual dedication has since produced one of the premier Irish festivals in the United States. The exponential growth of the festival stands as testament to this. In 1985 the event expanded to three days. In 1991, it finally outgrew the small wooded venue used during its first 9 years, and so relocated to The Berea Fairgrounds.

Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival has donated more than $770,000.00 to local and national charities since its 1983 inception, due to your continued generous support.

The Druids chosen charity this year is Cuan Mhuire Cuan Mhuire is Ireland’s largest voluntary provider of Addiction Treatment Services and Residential Rehabilitation. It’s main objective is the rehabilitation of persons suffering from alcohol, drug and gambling addictions. The Cuan Mhuire Programme is based on the philosophy of total abstinence and strives to restore the confidence, self-respect and sense of responsibility of all participants.

Support & Aftercare Our programme supports those suffering from addiction and their families, as they progress through a systematic 12 week programme for alcohol and gambling and 20 week programme for substance misuse. These programmes may be extended, as we recognise every individual case is unique. We continue to provide support after treatment through a national network of Aftercare and Family Support. At any one time Cuan Mhuire has in excess of 570 people in their centres nationwide.

Approx. 100,000 people treated Every year some 2,500 persons are admitted to Cuan Mhuire treatment centres. Since it’s formation in 1966 by Sr. Consilio, Cuan Mhuire has treated approximately 100,000 people. We believe that the place and setting within which the programme is offered is just as important as the programme itself. In addition to individual counselling and group therapy, Cuan Mhuire also provides life skills training for all it’s Residents within the treatment programme.

The Druids are very strong supporters of the idea of recovery from all addiction. The Money raised from this event will go directly to Cuan Mhuire and will support the development of a Women's unit in the centre. Coming close to the event we will be giving details of a major auction which will take place on the night and of a fund it camping which you can get involved in .
